I.C.U. gets the inside scoop from John Hervey about his latest project - Magna: The Last Pantheon - Now funding on IndieGogo

Magna: The last Pantheon is currently funding on IndieGogo. Can you tell us what it's about?

Without giving any spoilers, the protagonist, Kati Skogsholm, finds her world turned upside down upon learning she is adopted. In search of her parentage, she travels from her home in Idaho, to Finland, to Asgard, where she finds herself in league with a conglomeration of the few remaining deities of myth left in the world. By association, she is hurled into mortal danger as the deities are in the twilight of a losing battle for survival against supernatural forces.

Your previous project, Black Tiger: Legacy of Fury takes place in the same universe. Do readers need to have read it to understand Magna?

While Magna: The Last Pantheon Vol. 1 takes place in the same universe as Black Tiger: Legacy of Fury, you don't need to have read it to understand Magna. In fact, Black Tiger: Legacy of Fury is a contemporary story, while Magna: The Last Pantheon Vol. 1 predates it, taking place in 1942. The story brings further depth to the Beyond Time Universe, but also stands well by itself.
The artwork for the book is striking! Can you tell us about the team?
We are so grateful to have a stellar team of artists for this project! Marcio Abreu has worked on Red Sonja and Warlord of Mars, so I knew he could bring the artistic rigor needed to bring this story to life. I met Elizabeth Torque via Deviant Art before she started working with the Big 2 and she provided the first two fabulous covers. Her contract precluded her from working on the third so she pointed me to her brother, Eduardo Ramirez Viera, who proved to be equally talented. He provided the third cover. Omi Remalante Jr. is the colorist and he did an amazing job. His colors set the mood like music does for a movie.

Last, but not least, Marco Della Verde did a fantastic job with the letters, putting a bow on this production in the best possible way. The quality of this book is top notch!

Magna is a 75 page, full color, graphic novel, and is already completed. How did you get the book completed before the campaign?
Production of the Beyond Time universe books began years ago, first with Black Tiger: Legacy of Fury and then moving to Magna: The Last Pantheon. We initially published the completed story arcs for these mini-series via our digital comic reader on our website, www.beyondtimecomics.com.
With the comic book renaissance that is now taking place with independent comic books surging and finding their markets via crowdfunding, we are now providing these stories in physical form.

It's stated in the campaign that Magna: The Last Pantheon is part one of a two part story. So, after the second part, what can we expect from The Beyond Time Universe?
We will be fulfilling Magna: The Last Pantheon Vol.1 at the end of Q1 2021 and will concurrently launch the next story in the Black Tiger saga, Black Tiger: Hidden Dragon Vol. 1.
Black Tiger: Hidden Dragon Vol. 1 is fully produced with pencils by the incomparable Rod Luper, who provided the majority of the pencils for Black Tiger: Legacy of Fury. We have enough of a production pipeline to provide a new story quarterly for the next year and a half. At this time, our intention is to build enough of a following to keep the production pipeline full and the provision of new books consistent.
