We spoke to the creator of the steampunk/ western graphic novel Robert to get the inside info on this cool new comic project now funding on IndieGogo

First off, can you give us a little background about yourself?
I’m a 23 year old independent comic book creator. I went to school for animation and graduated with a degree in animation. For the past 6 years I’ve been a writer/artist with Unearthly Comics publishing comics and running the convention circuit to sell our own creator owned work. With my time with Unearthly Comics I did a lot of work either writing or producing artwork whether it be pencils/inking/coloring I’ve done all of it while working with them. Currently I am the creator/owner of BoogieBot Comics producing my own personal work.

Your current project Robert is funding on Indiegogo. What is Robert about?
ROBERT is the scifi, steampunk western adventure graphic novel of the future...today!
Robert takes place about 100 years after the events of Y3K, a devastating event that wiped out all of earths technology and forced the humans to hide away in bunkers and survive now a post apocalyptic earth.
However a miraculous event occurs when the robot labor force of earth Reboot and wonder the earth without a purpose. Without a purpose these robots create a new purpose for themselves off of the movies, tv shows, and books that we gain our personalities off of. 100 years after Y3K we meet Robert, Charles, and Eastwood, a gang of misfits that end up killing 2 of Ramóns (leader of the western bot gang) goons. Now Robert Charles and Eastwood are on a cross country road trip to escape the Western Bot Gang and the bounty on their heads!

There is a clear western and steampunk influence in the comic. What were some of your specific influences in creating the world of Robert?

Some of the influences I had growing up came from movies primarily like A Fistful Of Dollars, The Iron Giant, Transformers, even Toy Story. In terms of comics my biggest influences came from Sean Gordon Murphy, Frank Miller, Alan Moore, and Mark Millar. Especially when it comes to the coloring I was influenced by John Higgins from watchmen and Sean Gordon Murphy’s ink style.
Is Robert a stand alone tale, or can we maybe expect to see more of him and his band in the future?
The plan is to hopefully make Robert a trilogy. I already have ideas for what to add or make for the future slate of books.

You are handling every aspect of Robert’s creation, from writing, to art, to fulfillment. How has taking on all of that work been for you so far?
So far taking on all the responsibilities of the book feels great. In terms of time to produce the books it obviously takes time especially being the soul artist on the book. However it means I can ensure the artwork is up to the standards I truly want them to be.

Do you work digitally or traditionally?
I do both digital art as well as traditional. The covers of the book I have actually done traditionally and the interiors are all digital. Which makes it easier to work back and forth to keep the art consistent.

Beyond this campaign, what does the future hold for you?
The future is made not ensured. So for the time being I’m going to keep doing my best to make ROBERT a reality.
