I.C.U. had the chance to speak with Pulpstar Comics about their debut comic project - Automartyr - now funding on Indiegogo
Automartyr - The debut title from Pulpstar Comics is funding now on Indiegogo. For those who are unfamiliar, what is Automartyr?
Set in the year 2149, the story follows Blaksol, a surviving member of an elite unit of transhuman killers known at the 666th. Created with the purpose of spreading terror across the hive colonies on Earth, Blaksol finds himself trapped in the Pit of Hive Absolumn after the 666th was destroyed by The Ethnarch. Intent on escaping the hive, Balksol cuts a deal with a fixer for passage up-hive.
The story takes place in a dark future world, filled with mutants, enhanced humans, and more. Where did the inspiration for the story come from?
Much of the inspiration for this dystopia comes from our love for science fiction. There were countless times we mused about how things can take an extreme turn; and argued about what would happen then. This led to the idea of a world where remnants of human civilization could possibly survive in hollowed-out mountains should oceans boil over or nukes rain. Works from H.G. Wells, John Blanche, Yasushi Nirasawa and Wayne Barlowe have also influenced our take on the post doomsday future.
The world of Automartyr seems very deep and filled with history. How long have you been working on this project?
We have been working on Automartyr for more than 3 years, not counting the months of musings before we decided to take the plunge.
With such a unique world and fantastic artwork, people will want to know, who is the team working on the book?
The Automartyr series is created by Somjai Satjatham and Juliana “JK” Koh who collectively worked on the concept, story and world in which the story unfolds. Art credits go to Somjai while writing goes to JK – they have both have won international awards for their respective craft in advertising. John Lo is a valuable part of the team and works on finishes and typography.
You are currently crowdfunding issue #1. What is the plan for the future of the series?
We intend to roll out the 5 remaining issues through Indiegogo and our website at https://www.pulpstarcomics.com/ before the year ends.
