ICU caught up with Adam Lawson to get the story behind his newest project - The Kill Journal. Funding now on IndieGogo
The Kill Journal is an ambitious horror project. Can you tell our readers what it's all about?
At its core, this is a splatter movie with a conscience.
The Kill Journal is about what happens after the horror movie ends. Where the last remaining survivors are covered in mud and blood, and their friends all dead, and their lives are in shambles, and they don't know what to do. In our tale, these extreme trauma survivors find themselves on the steps of St. George's Church, looking for answers. The one he offers is revenge. He recruits them to join his half-mad war against the Revenants—the monster who took everything from them.
Revenants are vengeful spirits back from the dead. Someone like Jason Vorhees or the Crow. They are spiritual monsters made flesh, so they cannot be killed by physical means. Bullets to the head only delay them. St. George and his Survivors must learn the Revenant's unique origin and then build a custom trap to give them a final death (i.e., Jason Vorhees has to be taken back to Camp Crystal Lake).
While trying to hunt these demons, they are also facing the ones they have on the inside. Their guilt and sins and regrets. It's hard to know which ones are more frightening.
As you know, you can't keep a good killer down, so is there a possibility of more Kill Journal in the future?
There was always the plan of multiple volumes. Two different kinds of them: one that follows the story of St. George and another that has one-shot stories set in the world of Revenants and Survivors. There is so much to explore and I can't wait to bring it to people. Fans can expect to see a volume two in the works after we get this one delivered.
